HTC U23 Pro is coming to Germany: those who thought they were dead live longer
HTC is actually bringing a smartphone back to Europe and even to Germany. The HTC U23 Pro is positioned in the upper middle class.
I didn’t think I’d write these lines again, but HTC is back in the smartphone market in Europe. In Asia, they were never completely gone, but there was nothing to be heard on the German market for a long time.
With the HTC U23 pro, they are bringing an interesting device onto the market. Here are the most important key data:
- 6.7-inch OLED
- Full HD+ resolution
- 120Hz
- Corning Gorilla Glass Victus
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1
- 12 GB of RAM
- 256 GB of internal memory (expandable via microSD)
- 4,600mAh
- 30W wired charging – 15W wireless charging
- IP67
- 3.5mm jack connection
The SoC may not be the newest, but the rest of the data is impressive. The 3.5mm jack connection in particular should be a real argument for many audio fans out there. When looking at the cameras, however, you notice that HTC has only partially learned something new.
HTC U23 pro with quad cam and VIVE support
In addition to a 108MP main camera and an 8MP ultra wide-angle, the U23 pro uses a 5MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. Both deserve a big “buuhhh” because such sensors usually take such bad pictures that they are better not used. All they contribute is the quad-cam designation on the packaging and marketing materials.
A 32MP camera sits in a small punch-hole notch on the front. The HTC U23 pro can be paired with a Vive XR Elite and thanks to HDCP 2.2 you can then enjoy films and apps like Disney+ and Netflix on the VR headset. There are also a few gimmicks for the Metaverse. More information can be found on the HTC website. As always, you can find the link at the end of the news.
In terms of color, you can choose between black or white – HTC calls it Coffee Black or Snow White. You can pre-order the U23 pro from HTC starting today for €549. If you place your order by June 4th, you will also receive a pair of HTC True Wireless Earbuds Plus worth 79 euros in black or white for free.
HTC pioneered many technologies in the smartphone world. They built the first Android smartphone, launched the first device with two cameras (M8), and one of the first LTE/4G devices in 2010. It is clear that the U23 pro is neither of these “the first of its Art” attributes, but it could still be a very good smartphone for the price.
My last device from HTC was the HTC U12 Life. An entry-level device that did a lot of things right back then – in 2018. What was your last device from HTC? My guess is that the One and the M10 are both beautiful devices that were second to none at the time.
